Those Favorites
by BanjoTheBear

Some are simply better
I’m always interested in reading or hearing the thoughts of others.
So, please do share some of your own favorite anime!
Are they from a genre you don’t normally watch? Do they count as retro at this point, or do they sit in the modern side? What makes these favorites stand out above the rest?
As the Christmas holiday season commences, be sure to keep those favorites in mind, for — like many of our most cherished things — it’s always a good reminder to be thankful towards the parts of our lives that bring us fun and joy in major measure.
As it’s sometimes said, picking a single favourite anime is like choosing a favourite child, so…uh…
The genres of anime I profess to like are action, comedy and mystery. While those genres do show up in my favourites, my top-rated anime is a tragic drama (SGRS) and I also count Rokuhoudou Yotsuiro Biyori (a slice of life) among my favourites, because it was there when I needed it a few years back.

I reconsidered this so many times all of yesterday. I kept flicking between the anime I watched most enthusiastically to see the story, and those that had the biggest emotional impact, and even the ones I thought had the most impressive artistic value. In the end, I gave it to a silly little slice of life comedy that barely anyone watched, called Working!!
All of the others were, in my opinion, excellent pieces of media, but Working!! gives me something unique that I can only get from anime, and I like it in a unique way too. It feels tied up with the emotions and circumstances of my life that saw me watching a lot of anime, and it’s one of the shows I remember most fondly. Very sweet sentiment in this post – it’s been a long year and I just might go back to Working!! this Christmas. Hope you’re doing well!

Gate
Chrome Shelled Regios
Shikabane Hime
All four are probably modern; Shikabane Hime was from 2008. But their mix of world, character, and theme really captured my imagination.

A Place Further than the Universe
and the third is hard to say, but either Shirobako/Oregairu/Violet Evergarden
The top two are shows that have drawn me in most thoroughly, with what they executed brilliantly in my opinion. The ones in the third place are much more subjective and are because they spoke to me personally in some way.
